Singer Markos D1—whom May had named as the father of her purported baby—has also denied her claim that she is engaged to him.
Speaking to Newsweek on Thursday, Markos said the Mexican actress and dancer had told him she had invented the pregnancy news to drum up publicity for her upcoming farewell tour.
According to the 30-year-old singer, May made the confession earlier this week, when he called her from his home in California to ask her to remove the Instagram post in which she had claimed they were tying the knot.
May “wasn’t really happy” to comply with his request, he said. Markos then said he pressed her on the pregnancy after she had brushed off his questions when they had met in person weeks earlier.
“She told me that she is not pregnant, that she basically is referring to her babies as the tour that she has planned, because she wants to do a goodbye tour,” he told Newsweek. “She wants to do one in [Mexico] and one in the United States.”
Newsweek contacted Lyn May for comment but did not hear back before publication.
Addressing the engagement claims, Markos said: “Me and Lyn have never had a relationship. I do love Lyn as a person, as an artist. She has supported my career, we’re really good friends. But we have never had an actual real relationship.”
On August 8, May claimed on Instagram that she was expecting a baby with Markos.
Days later, Markos, whose real name is Marcos Hernandez, told Newsweek that he had been blindsided by the news, learning of it only when it was posted on social media. He suggested the pair might have had a drunken one-night stand but added, “We drank—I drank so much that I don’t even know what happened that night. It was just crazy.”
Markos told Newsweek at the time that he hadn’t been able to contact May—a problem he was able to overcome when he traveled to Mexico for his birthday celebrations in late August and sent a message to the actress through her publicists.
“When I arrived in Mexico, we went out to eat and I asked her, ‘Lyn, are you really pregnant?’” Markos said on Thursday. “She just laughed, and she said, ‘Just relax and enjoy your life. Don’t take it too seriously.’”
On August 25, May shared a baby scan on Instagram, along with a due date of January 12, 2022. That date, according to Markos, is when May hopes to embark on her tour.
She attended Markos’ birthday party days later, making the occasion something of a baby shower as she received gifts from well-wishers.
As for why May would invent a pregnancy to garner attention, Markos said, “She said that she thought it was a funny story, because, with the coronavirus and everything that was going on in the world, people needed to laugh with a story like this.
“She goes, ‘At my age, it’s impossible to have a baby.’ So basically she was doing it as a marketing tool to promote her goodbye shows.”
Markos told Newsweek he was “shocked” at learning that the Ficheras cinema star wasn’t actually pregnant—despite her age making such a feat nearly impossible.
“I was in shock because I believed the whole thing,” he said. “I really believed her, because when you see a story getting bigger and then you don’t speak to the person, you start to believe [it’s] true.”
Most of May’s Instagram posts referring to her pregnancy claims and her relationship with Markos have since been removed.
