However, the Mexican promotion has come out and announced that Rey Mysterio has joined them and will be debuting as part of the second season of Lucha Underground in January, 2016.
As part of the signing, Mysterio would be named El Rey and this reunites him with his longtime supporter Konnan, who is a big figure backstage in the AAA promotion. It was Konnan who was instrumental in Rey getting his start in the States back in the 90s’ and has been a vocal supporter of Rey over the years.
Lucha Underground which aired its first season this year, was met with opsitive reception and great feedback on its production values and tv series like storyline settings. Among the big names to appear on Lucha Underground include former ECW world champion John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero and Alberto Del Rio.
