On Monday morning, the rich got richer. In-state wing Brandon Sampson decided it was time to stay home and play his college ball in Baton Rouge as well. An athletic freak, Sampson is at his best when attacking the rim. He will give head coach Johnny Jones and company yet another viable scorer as well as someone who can guard multiple positions.

Sampson had committed to Steve Lavin and St. John’s a couple of months ago, but decided to re-open his recruitment when Lavin got the boot. New head coach Chris Mullin tried to keep Sampson in the fray but ultimately failed to get the job done.

Between Simmons and Sampson, LSU fans have plenty to be excited about, but top 20 shooting guard Antonio Blakeney will also head to Baton Rouge and bring his gaudy scoring numbers with him. Craig Victor will be eligible after the first semester and should give the Tigers a major boost up front.

LSU’s program already had a bright future. On Monday, the future became even brighter.
